Performance Evidence

Evidence is required to be collected that demonstrates a candidate’s competency in this unit. Evidence must be relevant to the roles within this sector’s work operations and satisfy all of the requirements of the performance criteria of this unit and include evidence that the candidate:

locates and applies applicable legislation, documentation, policies and procedures

implements requirements, procedures and techniques for the safe, effective monitoring and operation of auxiliary plant and equipment operations including:

changing over auxiliary/ancillary plant to meet operational and maintenance requirements

identifying basic faults and adjustments and make repairs to running/operating plant

carrying out plant and equipment maintenance

selecting and using relevant tools and equipment

identify and handle hazardous goods

maintaining, cleaning and operating equipment

identifying potential risks and hazards

lifting loads (manual handling, cranes and loads)

works with others to undertake and complete the monitoring and operation of auxiliary plant and equipment that meets all of the required outcomes including:

using a range of communications techniques and equipment to convey information to others

maintaining written and verbal reporting requirements and procedures

communicating to confirm work requirements

demonstrates completion of the monitoring and operation of auxiliary plant and equipment that safely, effectively and efficiently meets all of the required outcomes on more than one (1) occasion including:

operating and monitoring equipment including:

starting up auxiliary plant,

monitoring plant and equipment for correct and efficient performance,

take equipment indicator readings and identify and rectify defects and potential problems

interpret and respond to plant alarms

clearing pipeline and pumping system blockages

maintaining materials storage vessel levels to meet plant operating demands

performing post shutdown or isolation checks


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate knowledge of auxiliary plant and equipment monitoring and operating through:

applying legislative, organisation and site requirements and procedures for:

risk assessment and management

statutory compliance

work health and safety

operating auxiliary equipment

applying safe work practices

maintaining plant configuration and function

complying with auxiliary equipment configuration and function

complying with breakdown and emergency procedures

using troubleshooting techniques

complying with sampling and testing purpose and procedures

identifying plant and equipment limitations and operating parameters

complying with plant and equipment safety requirements

applying isolation procedures

applying metallurgical processes and effects on product

applying operational, site procedures and checks

applying environmental requirements and procedures

being prepared for fire/accident/emergency
